Nurture & Nourish

After our initial call, we visited the brothers at the Marram Grass to see first-hand what they had created. We spent a day together in conversation about the history of the cafe and the brothers’ aspirations for its future. We were impressed by the ambition, infectious fun and carefree approach to their business. Perhaps the most significant piece of information we gathered was the determination to give their customers exceptional service and to channel a portion of the profit from the business into local projects for the benefit of the wider community.

We facilitated several workshops with the brothers designed to consolidate thinking and draw out long-term ambitions. The information we gathered enabled us to build a defined brand strategy that pushed beyond the present-day business. We built a brand architecture to support their ambition well into the future, providing a firm foundation for the Marram Grass and other food-based business opportunities they had planned for the future.

‘Nature & Nurture’ reflects their core belief that food should come from the best possible local ingredients and that by building a successful business, they can give back to the local community. To date, they have sponsored the local kids’ football team, created a market garden and cookery school, growing ingredients for the restaurant and doubling as a community space to be enjoyed by all.

A ‘house of brands’ architecture and naming strategy that allowed the brothers to create new businesses under a holding company - Barry Bros - was of particular benefit. This approach provided a flexible way of establishing a new venture, that shares the core truth at their heart.

With the strategy agreed and in place, we created a robust visual identity system, allowing for many of the day-to-day items to be produced, in-house, maintaining high production values and consistent identity application across print, digital and other media.

Working with passionate founders, fired by a love for their work and a desire to help others, is always a privilege and an opportunity not to be missed. We enjoyed every minute.
